Job Summary

The Unit Coordinator is responsible for the oversight of daily residential operations within a Divine Help Services, Inc. DDA-licensed group home. This position ensures high-quality person-centered care, regulatory compliance with Maryland DDA and COMAR regulations, staff supervision, and the overall health, safety, and well-being of individuals served.

The Unit Coordinator serves as the on-site leader and primary liaison between staff, residents, families, healthcare providers, and agency leadership.

Responsibilities and Duties

1. Staff Supervision & Leadership
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate Direct Support Professionals (DSPs).
  • Develop and manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage and required staff-to-resident ratios.
  • Provide onboarding, coaching, and ongoing in-service training.
  • Conduct regular team meetings and performance evaluations.
  • Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, and person-centered care.
2. Individualized Service Plan (ISP) Oversight
  • Ensure full implementation of each resident’s Individualized Service Plan (ISP).
  • Monitor progress toward goals and verify accurate documentation.
  • Participate in ISP meetings and coordinate plan updates.
  • Ensure Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) are implemented consistently and effectively.
  • Monitor documentation to ensure alignment with service delivery requirements.
3. Health & Medical Coordination
  • Coordinate medical, dental, psychiatric, and therapeutic appointments.
  • Ensure physician orders are properly implemented and documented.
  • Oversee Medication Administration Records (MARs) for accuracy and compliance.
  • Conduct routine medication audits and ensure proper medication storage.
  • Monitor health status and report changes to appropriate parties.
4. Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure compliance with Maryland DDA and COMAR regulations.
  • Review daily progress notes, communication logs, and shift documentation.
  • Complete and review incident reports in a timely manner.
  • Maintain organized and audit-ready resident files.
  • Prepare for and participate in state inspections, licensing visits, and audits.
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly internal audits as outlined in agency policy.
5. Health, Safety & Environmental Oversight
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free living environment.
  • Conduct fire drills and document safety procedures.
  • Ensure infection control protocols are followed.
  • Monitor emergency preparedness procedures and supplies.
  • Report and address environmental or safety risks promptly.
6. Family & Stakeholder Communication
  • Serve as liaison between families, guardians, healthcare providers, and agency leadership.
  • Provide updates regarding resident health, progress, and concerns.
  • Address grievances or concerns professionally and promptly.
  • Promote collaborative relationships with all stakeholders.
7. Behavioral Support Oversight
  • Ensure consistent implementation of Behavior Support Plans.
  • Monitor behavioral trends and incident patterns.
  • Provide staff guidance on de-escalation and positive behavioral strategies.
  • Coordinate with behavior specialists as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of 2–3 years experience in DDA residential services.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required.
  • Medication Technician certification.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Successful background clearance.
  • Working knowledge of Maryland DDA and COMAR regulations.
  • Working knowledge of iCare Manager System
