Trillium Construction is now hiring in La Mesa, New Mexico! Our client specializes in utility scale solar and BESS and they are now hiring for a Safety Officer for a long term project in La Mesa, New Mexico. This position pays up to $45/hr depending on experience. Duties Reviewing Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs): Safety officers need to thoroughly review JHAs to identify potential hazards and ensure that appropriate safety measures are in place. Pre-inspection forms: Safety officers should conduct regular inspections of the construction site to identify any safety hazards or violations. They may need to fill out pre-inspection forms to document their findings. Attending subcontractors’ morning toolbox talk: Safety officers should actively participate in subcontractors’ morning toolbox talk sessions to ensure that all workers are informed about the potential hazards and safety protocols for the day. Assisting the site superintendent: Safety officers need to collaborate closely with the site superintendent to address safety concerns and provide guidance on safety protocols. They may assist in developing safety plans and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Conducting safety training: Safety officers may conduct regular safety training sessions via toolbox talks/ safety stand down for workers to educate them about the potential hazards of solar construction sites and train them on proper safety procedures. Investigating incidents: In the event of accidents or incidents, safety officers ensure accident investigations are conducted in a timely manner and inputted into Sphera. Maintaining safety records: Safety officers need to maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records, including incident reports, orientation attendance records, inspection reports, and safety policies. Conducting observations and inputting into Sphera: Safety officers should regularly conduct observations of workers and site activities to identify any safety violations or potential hazards. They should accurately document these observations in the Sphera system or any other designated safety management software. Conducting weekly site inspections located in folder 10.4 safety: Safety officers should conduct comprehensive weekly site inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations and identify any potential safety hazards. These inspections should cover all areas of the site and focus on specific safety protocols outlined in folder 10.4 safety. Ensuring all are following safety rules: Safety officers are responsible for monitoring and enforcing safety rules on the construction site. This includes ensuring that all workers are wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), obeying speed limits within the site, and wearing seatbelts when operating vehicles or machinery. Qualifications Relevant education and certifications: A safety officer shall have OSHA 30hr. Knowledge of solar construction safety: A safety officer should have a good understanding of the specific safety hazards associated with solar construction, such as electrical safety, working at heights, and handling photovoltaic panels. Strong communication skills: Effective communication is crucial for a safety officer to convey safety instructions, conduct training sessions, and collaborate with subcontractors, workers, and site supervisors. Attention to detail: Safety officers should have a keen eye for detail to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Problem-solving skills: Safety officers should be able to assess complex situations, identify potential risks, and develop effective solutions to mitigate those risks. Physical fitness: As safety officers may need to conduct physical inspections of the construction site, they should possess a reasonable level of physical fitness to navigate the site safely. Experience in construction safety: Prior experience in construction safety, preferably in solar construction or renewable energy projects, is highly desirable. This experience helps in understanding the unique safety challenges and best practices specific to solar construction sites.
