About the Hoover Institution The Hoover Institution on War, Revolution, and Peace is a public policy research center devoted to the advanced study of economics, politics, history, and political economy—both domestic and foreign—as well as international affairs. Founded in 1919 by Herbert Hoover, the institution has grown from a repository of historical materials to a leading research organization in contemporary history and economics. Job Purpose Assist a Hoover Senior Fellow with document‑based research and interviews for a book on Chinese politics. Additional responsibilities include short research projects on U.S.–China relations, social media outreach, roundtable event planning, and intern management. Core Duties Make decisions that affect the direction of research and contribute independently to overall projects. Compile data or process documents using standard calculations and formulas; serve as a research methods resource. Interpret, synthesize, and analyze data using scientific or statistical techniques. Co‑author sections of research publications and regulatory reports as needed. Perform limited project‑related administrative and budgetary tasks. Supervise staff or students when required, providing instruction and consultation. Minimum Requirements Education and Experience Bachelor of Arts in an applicable social science field and at least two years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience. Advanced degree preferred, with strong research and English‑language writing skills and fluency in Mandarin Chinese. Knowledge or coursework in Chinese domestic and/or foreign policy. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Statistical training (a plus, but not required). General computer skills and capacity to quickly learn new programs. Familiarity with social media applications. Strong analytical skills and sound judgment. Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills. Ability to work with human study participants. Developing supervisory skills. Physical Requirements Perform desk‑based computer tasks, light manipulation, lift up to 10 lbs. Occasionally stand, walk, sit, use telephone, write by hand, and file paperwork.
